Vercel: Lost Git repository access, pushes no longer deploy
Pushes to GitHub stopped deploying on Vercel? The project lost its Git connection. The repo was archived or deleted, or the Vercel GitHub App lost access to it.
Reviewed October 25, 2026
What it means in plain English
Vercel's error list has an entry called Lost Git repository access. For Vercel to deploy commits from your Git repository, a Vercel project has to be connected to it. Vercel says that connection is interrupted if:
- the Git repository is deleted or archived,
- the Vercel app was uninstalled from the Git account or organization, or
- on GitHub, you or a team member changed the access permissions of the Vercel GitHub App so it no longer covers the repository.
When the connection breaks, new pushes stop creating deployments.
Likely causes
- The repository was archived or deleted.
- The Vercel GitHub App was uninstalled from your GitHub account or organization.
- The Vercel GitHub App was changed from all repositories to selected repositories, and this repository is not in the list.
How to fix it, step by step
- Check that the repository still exists and is not archived on GitHub.
- For a personal GitHub account, open GitHub's Applications page at
https://github.com/settings/installations. Select Vercel under Installed GitHub Apps. - Look at the list of repositories the app can access. Vercel says the repository you want to connect must be listed there. If it is not, add it.
- For a GitHub organization, open the organization settings, select Vercel under Installed GitHub Apps, and check the same list.
- If the Vercel app is not installed at all, install it again from
https://github.com/apps/vercel. - Push a new commit to the repository.
How to check it worked
- The repository appears in the Vercel GitHub App's repository list.
- A new push creates a deployment in the Vercel project.
