Vercel custom domain shows "Invalid Configuration"

Added your domain to Vercel and it says Invalid Configuration? Set the DNS records Vercel shows at your registrar and wait for DNS.

Reviewed October 14, 2026

What it means in plain English

Vercel can't see your domain pointing at it yet, so it can't serve your site or issue an HTTPS certificate.

Likely causes

  • DNS records not added (or added wrong) at your registrar.
  • Old records (e.g. parking page A record) still present.
  • Domain in use by another Vercel account.
  • DNS changes still propagating.

How to fix it, step by step

  1. Vercel → Project → Settings → Domains → click the domain to see the exact records required.
  2. At your registrar (GoDaddy, Namecheap, etc.), add exactly those: typically an A record for the apex domain and a CNAME for www. Delete conflicting old A/CNAME records.
  3. Alternatively, switch the domain's nameservers to Vercel.
  4. Wait, then click Refresh in Vercel. Clear local DNS cache if needed.
  5. If it's claimed by another Vercel account, follow Vercel's domain ownership verification.

How to check it worked

  • Domain shows 'Valid Configuration' and the site loads on https.
